Hot Rolling of Steel
12 de February de 2024At Aceros y Servicios, our hot rolling facilities offer comprehensive steel and metal rolling services tailored to meet your industrial needs.
The boxes where the rollers or cylinders are housed are placed in a very robust structure called a frame. The set of facilities with one or several boxes, together with all the auxiliary elements such as motors, roller conveyors, chillers, shears, etc., form the rolling mill.
Types of Rolling Boxes
According to the arrangement of their cylinders, they are classified as:
Duo and reversible duo: Box made up of two cylinders. The reversible allows lamination from right to left and vice versa, since the cylinders can rotate in both directions.

Trio: It has three cylinders. The rolling is carried out alternately in one direction between the central cylinder and the
bottom, and in the opposite direction between the central and the top.

Reversible quarter and quarter: It has two sets of two cylinders each to obtain important reductions, since it is necessary to laminate with very high pressure. The work cylinders are small in diameter, but they have larger support cylinders that provide them with the strength they need.

Continuous and semi-continuous: When trying to obtain a product with a small section compared to the starting semi-product, its length becomes so large that it is not possible to use reversible boxes. Boxes are then placed in a line that progressively reduce the section to the final measurement.

Universal: They incorporate a set of vertical cylinders at the exit of the horizontal ones for rolling profiles or edging sheets.
Depending on the products you want to manufacture, you can choose different types of boxes or combinations:
Roughing trains: In general, very robust “reversible duo” to obtain square or flat slabs (bloom or slab) from ingots.

Long and structural product trains: They roll square or slightly rectangular slabs with several “reversible duo” boxes, trio boxes in parallel, or in continuous trains. Products are obtained in which their cross section is small in relation to their length, such as round, square, hexagonal, double T, angle section bars, etc.

Flat product mills: For the manufacture of thick plates, flat slabs are rolled in quarter box or reversible quarter box facilities.

For the manufacture of hot strips, continuous or semi-continuous trains are used.
