When the hardness requirement is between 42 and 55HRC, Toolox® 44 allows additional thermal treatment to be avoided (necessary for other steels), thanks to its exceptional and guaranteed tenacity.

Toolox® 33 is a pre-treated steel, perfect for components for tools and engineering. It has good dimensional stability after machining.
Toolox® 33 is delivered tempered and annealed, has great resistance and very low residual tension, and therefore very good dimensional stability after machining.
If appropriate measures are used, it may considerably increase the lifespan of your tools and components.

Pre-treated steel for cold cutting dies, aluminium extrusion and engineering components.
Despite its great hardness,, Toolox® 44 combines high tenacity with great dimensional stability during machining.
Its nominal hardness of 450 HBW/45 HRC makes Toolox® 44 the ideal option for complex applications of moulds and dies. The great purity of the steel gives Toolox® 44 very good properties for polishing, A2 gloss and texturing.
Applications:
Toolox® 44 allows nitriding and covering with PVD in applications which require greater superficial hardness to resist wear. Engineering processes can be carried out on surfaces, provided that the temperature does not exceed 590°C.
Tests:

Hardness in accordance with EN ISO 6506-1, on milled surface of between 0.5 and 2mm below the surface of the sheet.
Ultrasound inspection according to EN 160 with extra limits in accordance with the SSAB V6 specification.

Example of transformation
of TOOLOX® steels
Client with axle of F127 (34CrNiMo8) with localised durokrom. Material subject to much abrasion (silica). Maximum operating lifespan 3 months, ending with breakage of the axle + spindles in 100% of cases.
Solution: Toolox® 44 without additional treatment is used (machining and assembly).
Operating lifespan: 9 months and replacement of the axle due to loss of dimensions, 0% breakage.
