Hardox for extreme abrasion resistance
Hardox is the wear solutions brand with the highest payload and service life. Hardox wear plate meets stringent demands for strength, consistent quality, flatness and surface conditions. Thanks to the ideal combination of consistently high hardness and excellent impact resistance, Hardox wear plate is the best material for a wide range of applications: in mining, recycling, transportation, quarrying, concrete construction and cement and many other areas.
There is only one producer of Hardox plate, SSAB. Hardox has been on the market since 1976 and is continually developing to meet customer needs.
Extreme wear resistance has always been the key to the success of Hardox wear plate. Today it is tougher and stronger than ever, and able to withstand heavy impacts without permanent deformation or cracking.
Hardness and strength work together
– Hardness is what gives Hardox steel its wear resistance and structural strength. The hardness minimizes wear as it is difficult for the «edges» of the abrasive material to cut into the material. Hardox grades offer high wear resistance throughout the life of the plate. Hardness also means it has excellent yield and tensile strength, properties that keep a structure in shape without being warped.
Hardness = Wear resistance
– Strength is the other strength of Hardox wear plate. Where hardness makes it wear resistant and strong, toughness is what makes it possible to bend, form, and weld the material without cracking. If a Hardox wear plate is stressed beyond its yield point and plastically deformed – on purpose in the shop or when struck by heavy rock on site – it will resist cracking and if a localized crack occurs , it will resist spreading.
Tenacity = Security
Although primarily used as a wear plate, Hardox has been used successfully in machine building and as a tool steel. With Hardox steel, structures can be designed that are wear resistant, strong and light at the same time. Hardox wear plate is becoming more powerful and versatile. New grades and dimensions are introduced regularly. The traditional Hardox® wear plate has been supplemented with round bars and tubes.
Longer life, higher payload, lower maintenance costs and exceptional accessibility lead to economic improvement and secure competitive advantage.
Longer service life, higher payload, lower maintenance costs and exceptional accessibility lead to economic improvement and safeguard competitive advantage.
Strength values for Hardox HiTuf, 450 and 500 are guaranteed minimum values at -40°C, -20°C and 0°C respectively. Compared to a standard S355 steel, Hardox HiTuf, for example, has approximately three times the yield strength (hardness) and the same resistance to cracking (toughness).
Strength, hardness and resistance guaranteed
What hardness is right for you? Probably a mix of grades, fighting different wear conditions. A tipper body could have one grade of Hardox on the base and another on the sides to provide uniform wear life for the entire body. When calculating relative wear life using SSAB’s WearCalc software, Hardox Extreme will last more than 10 times longer than mild steel under similar wear conditions.
The variety of dimensions makes Hardox® wear plate suitable for a wide range of designs and products. The excellent qualities of Hardox® flat wear plate grades are also available in the form of tubes and round bars.
We are SSAB distributors in Valencia, Spain. We offer different types of Hardox and Toolox steels.
